Additionally, the moisture in the mortar may disrupt the curing process of the grout, leading to discolored grout in areas. Uncured thinset reacts in unpredictable ways. A tile may come loose, taking part of the thinset with it.

It is expensive and time-consuming work to replace tiles and scrape old mortar off the floor prior to reapplication. There is no harm in waiting more than 24 hours before you grout your installed tile. As long as the tile surface is kept clean and debris is kept out of the seams between tiles, you can allow your mortar to cure for as long as you wish before grouting.

Caution pays off. Remove spacers. Once your tile has been set, and the thin set has dried, you can begin to take out the spacers used in between the tiles.

Clean the surface and grout lines. Mix the grout. Float the grout. Clean off the tile. Apply sealant. Poor quality tiles will need to be replaced after 20 years. Still, it's an impressive lifespan, and when properly maintained and taken care of, ordinary porcelain tile flooring can last for decades even after heavy use and exposure from the elements. Protect your hands with rubber gloves, and dip your cheesecloth or terry cloth in water.

Wring thoroughly, as too much water can damage grout. Can you grout tile the same day you lay it? Category: fine art digital arts. If the installer uses a rapid set thinset which is appropriate for the specific tile being installed, then grouting the same day is possible.

Curing happens while the mortar is drying. Thinset will go through chemical changes as it dries, which is what allows it to work properly. Curing gives the mortar the strength and durability that you want. As soon as you take dry mortar and add water, the curing process begins.
