Should i buy a 2008 macbook pro

Perhaps "thanks" to Apple does not allow operating system upgrades beyond Features that make MacBook better than the new MacBook today. Here is a list of a number of features that today's Mac users will want to drool over, all of which appear on the MacBook:. Not over yet. The MacBook also has a great backlit keyboard, which is comfortable to use because of its high accuracy and robustness.

However, the hardware of the MacBook still has its weaknesses: RAM is limited to 4GB you can add it yourself without any problems , and the screen is of non-Retina type. In actual use, the difference between Retina and non-Retina may also be temporarily acceptable. Finally, there is no expansion card slot. If you open this MacBook, you will be surprised at the space inside it.

The components are still firmly attached, but certainly not as tight as the current MacBook. Compare it to a home-made cheese sandwich, with wholemeal bread, and some lettuce leaves topped with shredded cheese.

However it is still my main machine! Anyway, let's move on. The battery life of the notebook isn't that great anymore. Originally it would last 4 to 5 hours when using the smaller, less powerful GPU. It dropped to about 2 or 3 hours when using the GT. Throughout my years on school the battery held up pretty well and I could work a bit over 2 hours on a single charge.

At the end of however the battery started to degrade fast. Right now I'm able to use it for about one hour before running out of juice and OS X is no longer reporting a healthy battery. Instead it shows "Replace soon". Still, could be worse: I know a lot of friends with non-Macs who needed to replace their battery after just one or two years. Originally I wanted to order a replacement battery but decided not to because they are scarce and expensive. I didn't want a third-party battery either.

But at that point I was pretty much used to getting just 1 or 2 hours of battery life. I always carry my charger with me and I dim the display when using it on the train ride to work. So what does the future bring for my MacBook? Well who knows! My employer is thinking about buying me a new MacBook. Or maybe not. But honestly I can't bring myself to it because my Mac is still working so well apart from some hiccups I detailed earlier.

Yes it's slower and yes it doesn't have a super high resolution display but still. There are also two aspects holding me back from buying a new Mac. If I didn't do this I would have retired my Mac much sooner! What if I wanted to upgrade my RAM? The second thing that I will miss is ports.

I will allow, though, that the trackpad no longer always registers clicks—yay, tap to click—and that the black plastic material on the hinge is starting to crackle and flake. Note that both problems are in the two areas that physically move. This and the model can officially run Sierra and High Sierra.

However the uses lidless CPU chips which makes it harder but not impossible to upgrade them. There is effectively zero difference between the and models so the is just as good but being slightly older is typically cheaper to buy secondhand and therefore represents better value. Apple do not sell these SSD drives separately so the ones you see on sale on eBay for example have either been removed from a Mac and therefore maybe partly used, or have been 'liberated' from the factory in China.

Jun 16, AM. Jun 16, AM in response to slowjoey In response to slowjoey. Mine lasted for 7 years, and then I got the black screen. By then, they were no longer replacing the card. I gave up an bought a Be sure to find out if the card was replaced!!! If it hasn't, then it may not survive for very long. I didn't update past But I don't do photo or video editing. Ellyenne this is the Mac Pro forum and the original poster slowjoy is clearly referring to a desktop Mac Pro not the MacBook Pro laptop.

I was searching for MacBook Pro and this question came up.
